| Making a
wedding ring bearer pillow is pretty easy if you have
the materials and a good sewing machine.
Decide on the size of the pillow and cut a square out
of plastic or heavy paper for the pattern. Leave about
1/4 inch for seam allowance. Typical ring pillows are
6 or 8 " squares. Sewing a circular pillow is a
challenge for even an experience seamstress.
Place your pattern on a double piece of your main fabric.
Depending on the thickness of your fabric, you may want
to fuse interfacing onto the top panel for extra strength.
This helps for sewing on accents so that the fabric
won't tear.
Place the front sides of the fabric together, making
sure the grain is going the same direction. Pin the
four sides abut an inch from the raw edge.
Sew three full sides using a tight, straight stitch.
On the fourth side, sew about two inches down and use
a back stitch to seal it. Cut your thread and sew the
last two inches starting with a back stitch first.
Cut about 1/8 inch from your seam and use a zigzag
stitch to seal the edges. Be careful not to zigzag your
hole!
Turn the pillow case inside out and use a scissors
to push out the corners. Press lightly. Stuff with polyfill
or down.
Press the seams of your hole. Use a hidden stitch to
sew up the hole.
Now that your pillow case is complete, use your imagination
to decorate it. Pearls, beads and ribbons along with
silk flowers and lace make beautiful accents. Get creative!
Ring pillows make great heirlooms to pass down generation
after generation.
Good luck!
