Wow!  We had over 60 orders when we came back to work on Monday and they just keep coming in.  I'm trying to remember if people did this much online shopping int he previous years and I just don't think so.  I mean, we always pick up right around this time of year obviously but I don't remember "Black Friday" as being a big sales day for us in the past.

Most people are buying photo quilts which are by far the best Christmas gift out there.  I mean, who wouldn't like a photo quilt?

While me and the fam were stuffing ourselves with stuffing, you fine folks in e-land were buying gifts like crazy.  We have seen the return of many happy customers this year.  Folks that had bought a gift for a wedding present and then came back for Christmas gifts

Now, back to work on quilts!!!

They say that as you age, your taste buds change.  Well, not sure what the heck is going on with mine but I am frighteningly addicted to pistachio nuts.  It's bad, friends.  If I run out of these precious, green beauties, I freak and drive immediately to my local Henry's market for a new bag of booty.  Have you ever had a pistachio?  They are positively the most wonderful little nuts in the world.  Mmmmm....

The other day on the way to lunch I posed the following question to my co-workers: "Where would you go about finding a fake wedding cake?"  They were stumped.  The suggestions ranged from creating one using styrofoam and other craft supplies to contacting a baking supply friend of of a friend and seeing what professional bakers use.  That all seemed a little time intensive for me so I took my search to eBay where I found and purchased this little beauty:

The fake cake wasn't cheap - it was over $100 but just look how cute and realistic it looks!  It's the perfect prop for wedding cake top photos.  Yay!

For anyone out there reading this that knows me, you will know that I have spent the last few years of my life worrying endlessly about the usability of my four gift web sites: Wedding Shower Gifts, Wedding Anniversary Gifts, Birthday Gifts With Heart and Christmas Gifts With Heart.  The custom products we sell are hard to fit into a standard, out-of-the-box shopping cart software.  There are a lot of selections to be made and it's hard to explain all the options on the site.  It has been especially challenging because up until I launched this business 5 plus years ago, I had always worked in a team development environment.  Designing web sites all on your own is tough - I lost my objectivity - and we rarely have a fresh set of eyes to help.

So, I have been lamenting about creating a new version of the store.  I want bqadly to move away from the four separate store set-up and move towards one boutique with different specialized departments.  I think the new interface is good and I have been working hard on taking better product shots.

I'm feeling pretty happy with the new images I took today of four photo quilts.  Not seen is our light blue quilt or our candy apple red.  The candy apple red will be soon replaced with a much more pleasing raspberry red and the blue with a denim blue.

It was a super hot day today for November but since the weather has cooled off lately, I made the mistake of wearing a fleece shirt to work today.  So, when I was out there in full sun light trying to get these quilts to be photogenic, I thought I might pass out.  Plus, I had to cross a little stream to get to the right tree and almost fell in - me, four customer quilts and the Nikon D40 which is pretty much my most prized posession,

Well, my lasik surgery went off without a hitch and both eyes work just as G-d intended them to.  It is such an amazing thing to wake up first thing and be able to read the clock from across the room.

Actually, I lied.  The surgery went fine but my right eye immediately began giving me issues.  Part of the reason it was so hard on me was because my left eye was doing great and I felt like I had done something to make my right eye irritated.  Everyone at the doctor's office said that I wasn't going to experience much discomfort but my right eye was KILLING me all day Saturday and Sunday.  The only thing that would help the eye was to eat soup.

By Monday morning, my right eye was starting to shape up.  The swelling went down a bit and my sinuses stopped working on over-drive.

Success.

That's it!  I'm getting the lazik surgery.  I can't take another day of squinting to make out the street signs.  I'm getting crow's feet around my eyes and that is simply not acceptable.

So, today at 10:45 I am having my initial consultation in La Jolla.  The Lazik Vision Institute is offering interest free financing for an entire year if I have the procedure by the end of the year.
