Unusual and Unique Wedding Gift Ideas - Gifts for the Bride and Groom

By Brina Jannenga
WeddingShowerGifts.com

Are you tired of giving the same, stale wedding gifts? Here are some unique and unusual wedding gift ideas for the untraditional bride and groom.

One gift we received at our wedding that we both loved was a set of cookbooks from exotic locales. A set of six in all, we now have a complete collection of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Hawaiian and Indian cookbooks.

We were delighted to receive a great set of Henckels knives. How long I have been trying to cut tomatoes with my one decent bread knife! Maybe not the most romantic gift but the one thing they will use forever.

Is there a really fancy restaurant in your town? How about a gift certificate? Maybe indicate on the card that the certificate is to only be redeemed on their 1 year anniversary. Or how about a restaurant located in the town they are visiting on their honeymoon? Do some research and provide a printed review to wet their appetite.

Ceramic guestbook platters are a modern twist on the more tradiational wedding gift idea. Order one of our platter kits. We have several designs to choose from. The kit comes with a special marker and instructions. Bring the platter to the wedding and take charge of getting the guests to sign it. You may want to check with the couple first but this gift makes a great surprise!

After the wedding, wrap the platter in its original packaging and return it to us. We will fire the platter once to seal the signatures of the guests. Next, we glaze the platter with a clear glossy coat. After the final firing, the platter is food-safe and washable. The guests signatures are exactly how they signed them and now a permanent part of the platter! Supply us with the name and address of the couple and we will ship the platter directly to them. They will love their ceramic guestbook platter and thank you for the unique wedding gift idea.

A great last-minute wedding gift idea is a gift certificate for a painting. Even if the wedding is just days (or hours!) away, we can send our wedding gift certificates by email directly to the bride and groom's email address. The email will explain that the couple has received a custom watercolor painting in the size that you have chosen and will give instructions on how to redeem the certificate. After the couple receives their wedding photos, they can choose their favorite to have recreated by artist Ruthie Friedman in watercolor.

What do you think?

good site althought the pop-ups aren't much of a help! would be nice if i could see the site without closeing 4 or 5 windows!

WSG Webmaster -- Friday, January 31 2003, 11:26 am

Hi guests! A couple of people have commented about pop-ups. Our site does not use any pop-ups. Can you please describe what the pop-ups are if you see them?

Jen -- Friday, April 18 2003, 09:34 pm

In regards to the "pop-ups", i have Earthlink as my ISP and they have "pop-up blocker" free of charge. No pop-ups EVER! Its awesome.

My fiance and I have lived together for 2 years now and have absolutely everything we need for our home. We are not interested in a gift registry for this reason and could really use the cash as gifts instead. Any suggestions on how to put this message across politely to our guests? email me at geoppner@hotmail.com

Jacqueline Buitrago -- Sunday, October 26 2003, 11:30 pm

my fiance and i lived together for 1 year and have everything for our home. We dont know how to ask for cash as gift. can you help us.

Kelly -- Friday, November 21 2003, 07:33 pm

Jacqueline - there is no real way to ask for cash. What we did was ask as many people we knew the same question. That way, they got the hint, and it didn't feel like we were "asking" the guests for cash. Just asking them if there is a way to go about asking for it. They all said no, but they got the idea.

I would like let you guys know about this site called GiftNetworld.com. The beauty of this site is that you could create your registry, select the gifts from the list that your guests would buy for you, but after your wedding you have the option of selling one, two or all of the gifts back to the site and get cash instead. This way you do not have to ask for cash and feel uncomfortable about it. I did a registry through their website when I got married 8 months ago and I ended up with $8000. Check it out.

I have seen in (one of my many wedding magazines)a locket with the brides and grooms hair woven. A very romantic idea but i cannot find it again. Perhaps an idea for your unique collection!

Tatiana -- Tuesday, October 12 2004, 22:07 pm -- Tuesday, October 12 2004, 10:09 am

Just can't seem to find the right doorway gift. Can't seem to find anything different for my wedding doorgift

A M Doyle -- Tuesday, October 19 2004, 01:41 pm

I think this is brutal

Michael Doyle -- Tuesday, October 19 2004, 01:42 pm

I think this is the best web site ever - some wonderful ideas cheers u guys

Farah -- Saturday, December 4 2004, 02:32 am

Good...great effort and some nice ideas! But need more ideas to go with the different parts and traditions of the world!

KM -- Sunday, April 24 2005, 11:12 am

Anyone who would ask for cash or broadcast how much they "made" by asking for cash is just plain and downright rude!

Getting married is meant to be about your "marriage", not about how much money you can get at the "wedding."

bernard siao -- Monday, April 25 2005, 01:47 pm

the guestbook platter is so unique.... the first time i got the idea about that and is so cool.... that a platter is made to where guests can sign....

Christel -- Thursday, June 16 2005, 09:25 pm

Friends at work gave me a bridal shower luncheon and gave my fiance and I a gift certificate for a bed and breakfast stay.

Tiffany Cox -- Monday, August 1 2005, 11:40 am

I think this is a good web sit I all ready Married but I have not had my wedding shower yet so this web sit is giving me some real good ideas.
