Creative and Unique Wedding Shower Favors

Favors are small gifts given to guests to remember your special day and to say thank you for joining in the celebration.

You can give your guests favors or gifts like make-up, sachets, candles, or jewelry. For an added touch, personalize each gift with the guest's name.

Place-card holders can double as wedding or bridal shower favors if they are unique. Other ideas guaranteed to be a hit include: small topiaries, a small silk potted plant, sachets, or scented candles.

Favors normally don't need to be expensive. They can run from about $2 - $30 per guest depending on how much you want to spend. My suggestion is to shop around online where you can get the best deals and the most creative and unique favors.

Wedding Shower Favors Idea #1

Give the guests a tiny shopping bag with a gift certificate from a local accessory shop. New earrings for everyone!

Wanna take it a step further? Invite all the girls to meet at the mall. Pass out the bags and let everyone shop 'til they drop. Sit down at a cute restaurant afterwards for lunch.

Wedding Shower Favors Idea #2

Going formal? How about an antique teacup for everyone with three tablespoons of your favorite potpourri? Use clear cellophane to wrap it up. Throw in a variety of tea bags to be cute, too.

Thrift shops have a great variety of tea cups. They won't always match but that's part of the fun.

Wedding Shower Favors Idea #3
Our Rosebud combs will look lovely on the table and each of the girls will love it. They come in a variety of colors and are handmade.
Wedding Shower Favors Idea #4

Miniature rose bushes are adorable and fun to bring home. Plants can be purchased for as little as $3.99 and you can find them at the grocery store or the local florist. If you are inviting several guests, you may want to place an order a few weeks in advance to make sure there will be enough for everyone.

A variation on the theme is a lucky bamboo arrangement. The more stalks, the more it will cost.

Another idea is to give tiny succulents or cacti to match a southwestern theme. Make sure to select a variety without pricks!

What do you think?

Favors for an engagement party? How about "Save the Date" magnets placed in a large bowl by the front entry? Or tiny bags of candies with your wedding date on a label to remind your guests.

Lorraine -- Thursday, August 7 2003, 10:37 pm

LAME!!

Kristen -- Tuesday, August 26 2003, 06:44 pm

My shower is in January '04 and I live in Chicago. To bring a little sunshine to the party, we are throwing a Hawaiian-themed shower (plus the fact that we're getting married in Maui...it goes along with the whole theme of things). Anyway, to save on costs, I'm making beach-themed candles. I bought the gel wax and little seashells at a craft store and the glass holders at Walmart. They're very cute and cost effective!

Lizzy Fay -- Friday, September 12 2003, 11:44 pm

My wedding is on Nov. 1st the day of the dead and the day before is holloween. Im really not that girly having all those flowers ideas. You should try having more not so girly ideas. example: having a wine party with their own glass and charm, or a raxing shower like making your own candle. and that way every one is happy.

MSB -- Thursday, October 23 2003, 05:31 pm

I think that the save the date magnets are a bad idea. The shower isn't supposed to be that far in advance that they will have to save the date. Most people attending a shower will attend the wedding as well. I think it will just look really cheap, as if you are handing out the left over save the date magnets purchased to send out to everyone well in advance for the wedding. Sorry!

DONATE MONEY TO A CHARITY INSTEAD OF FAVORS...USE A CHARITY THAT REALLY MEANS SOMETHING TO THE FAMILY AND CREATE A WAY TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT A DONATION HAS BEEN MADE IN LIEU OF FAVORS....NO ONE NEEDS OR USES HALF THE FAVORS THAT ARE GIVEN OUT ANYWAY.

JENNIFER -- Saturday, January 10 2004, 01:14 am

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE IDEA ON DONATING TO A CHARITY VESUS THE USE OF WEDDING FAVORS, MY FIANCE MICHAEL AND I ARE DONATING TO A CHARITY TO HOPEFULLY HELP SOME ELSES DREAMS TO COME TRUE. GOOD IDEA!!!!

Tiffany -- Wednesday, January 14 2004, 10:30 am

My mom's friend had the cutest idea for an all girl shower. Each woman will receive a bottle of nail polish and an emery board at their place setting. The center pieces will be "spa bags" filled with beauty items to pamper the winner of the center piece...things like shower gel, a loofah sponge, a pumice stone, lotion, etc. Since I am an independent AVON representative I am able to do this for very little cost.

Dessie -- Sunday, January 18 2004, 05:10 pm

My sister-in-law's shower has a theme of the old kid rhyme K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

A few stores in Kansas City carry the cutest things ever! They are custom can coozies. I just found the web site for them and wanted to pass it along! Great as a favor or as a prize! www.foofoozie.com

Joanna -- Sunday, March 14 2004, 05:41 pm

For my kitchen tea - i bought in bulk garlic/ginger graters - which are minature graters - tied a ribbon and thank you note around them and gave each of my guests one of these - i thought this suited the kitchen tea theme and also was a useful gift that every kitchen needs ; )

Elizabeth Kidder -- Monday, March 29 2004, 09:52 pm

I would be interested to know if you would sell wholesale.

L.... -- Monday, April 12 2004, 05:58 pm

Some of these ideas are a little out there or for younger girls getting married. How about for us mature women getting married, I love the idea of making a donation to a charity for a favor gift. I am going to discuss it with my fiance

Jodie -- Wednesday, May 5 2004, 01:31 pm

We are throwing a surprise shower for a girl at work and I am having heart sugar cookies made iced and then they are placing the name of the bride and groom and the date they are going to married on each cookie. We are then placing them in clear bags with ribbon tied around top.

christina -- Friday, May 7 2004, 12:48 pm

There is a shower I'm attending for my friend. I think I will stick with the things that will pamper the Bride before her Big Day. Things from either Victoria's Secret or Bath and Beyond.

Erin -- Tuesday, June 1 2004, 07:21 pm

I am throwing a shower for my niece and I purchased several different gifts for the ladies to choose what they like. The gifts range from spa kits to bottles of wine. Everyone will walk away with a favor they choose. Enjoy!!!

Marilyn -- Sunday, June 27 2004, 01:11 am

I just had my shower and it was a lot of fun. My mother threw it for me and everyone had to wear "Something Blue..." since it's my favorite color. Having a color-themed shower also looks GREAT in pictures. My mom gave out blue candles in glass hive-looking holders for favors. They made a giant collage of pictures of me with each of my female family and friends who attended the shower. We couldn't play many games because of all the gifts that had to be opened, but we did play Bridal Bingo where lavender, gardenia and jasmine sachets were the prizes. Centerpieces were blue glass hanging tea-light holders which people won by sitting in a chair that had a tiny blue gift bow underneath it at each table. My bridesmaids each gave me a gift to represent a line in the "Something Old, Something New..." poem which was very sentimental. I had a blast!

Cati -- Monday, June 28 2004, 03:30 pm

My cousing is hosting an August wedding shower where the guests will be going rafting. Nice change of pace from the boring games.

Beth B. -- Wednesday, June 30 2004, 02:17 am

For my bridal shower i'm gonna have a fun filled day w/ the girls like at Six Flags...great fun for us younger brides...in the late afternoon we'll have a spa treatment kinda thing and then....IT'S LADIES NIGHT....(and i don't mean pickin up dudes) just us all dancin and havin a great time together. So we look and feel great all day...

Gina -- Thursday, July 1 2004, 10:33 pm

We're throwing a Luau theme shower so we can incorporate all those colorful "umbrellas" in decorating tropical drinks!! We're giving out mini-bottles of rum decorated with stirrers and notes of thanks from the bride & groom.

Christine -- Thursday, July 8 2004, 08:29 pm

Any ideas, on how you can make it look nice on the table for the charity in lieu of favors...and wording?

Willow -- Monday, July 12 2004, 03:43 am

And here I thought I was being original when I picked out the "Upscale Luau" theme for my friends Bride and Groom Wedding Shower. I shopped for little trinkets through Orientaltradingcompany.com, we are going to decorate with classic luau decor and we are serving Hawaiian food! Aloha! The co-theme is also 'Naughty and Nice' and guests are being encouraged to bring something naughty for the bride and groom if they want to see them blush, otherwise, bring something nice. Oriental Trading Company sells a treasure chest which I am going to fill with Lingerie and other stuff for their wedding night, and this will be opened by the groom!

debbie -- Sunday, July 25 2004, 12:39 pm

CAN ANYONE TELL ME A IDEA THAT I CAN USE FOR A CENTERPIECE FOR A CHILDRENS TABLE AT THE WEDDING. I THOUGHT OF THE LITTLE BRIDE AND GROOM BEARS AND ALSO BALLOONS BUT, I KNOW CHILDREN WILL CRY AND FUSS OVER THIS ANY MORE SUGGESTIONS THAT ANYONE MAY HAVE.

THANKS

Frieta -- Friday, July 30 2004, 12:42 pm

Don't worrie about it. Kids will not know - or care if there is a center piece or not. Save the money and time. There is plenty other stuff that us brides can stress about.

Beth B. -- Saturday, July 31 2004, 01:57 am

debbie- Well u can use the balloon idea and have a big bundle of them in the center or u could tie a few to the backs of their chairs so they wouldn't take any from the center...then the kids could each take some and u would still have centerpieces. Also put some "Busy" items on the table as well ....anything to keep them busy basically. Like maybe mini bubbles... wedding pics for them to color on..flashing light key chains ...i dont know how little the children are but u get the idea..that way they wont grab for other things. Hope some of this is useful ENJOY...

Hey everyone my wedding is in Feb. does anybody have any ideas for party favors that i could use? I cant think of good ones?

Amber -- Wednesday, August 18 2004, 11:52 am

My best friend is getting married in October and she is having a Cinderella themed Wedding. I want to throw her a bridal shower with a good theme that goes in hand with Cinderella. One of the bridesmaids who is another close friend is helping me. She suggested a "Princess" theme where we can give out cute little tiara's and "wands" to the guests and ask them to bring gifts fit for a princess. We are thinking maybe spa type stuff. Does any of this sound like a good idea?? I'm really stuck on this. I got married over a year ago and I never had a bridal shower so I don't know what all to do...and I'm the only one married among my friends.

I was just at a wedding that as the chidern entered (and if they missed it was left by the sign in book) was a basket filled with coloring books and the same person that was at the guest book handed out 5 crayons to each child. the books were purchased at the local dollar store and the crayons where in the big boxes.

jen -- Sunday, September 12 2004, 09:02 pm

im currently planning a shower for my cousins april wedding. the weddin theme is "Irish" so we are having a "st patricks/Irish" themed shower. In the invites im sending out reciepe cards with shamrocks on them to be filled with a fav reciped for the bride. we are askin guests to come 'decked' out in "luckof the Irish green" then during the wedding we will have each guest say somthing into a video, write a wish for the bride on a slip of paper then release the wish in a balloon after she has read it. the thank you cards will include a pic of the bride and guest printed on a magnet. Hope some of these ideas help

LISA -- Monday, September 13 2004, 01:50 am

I AM THROWING A BRIDAL SHOWER AND I WAS STUCK ON A CHEAP FAVOR FOR THE GUEST, BECAUSE EVEN IF YOU DO SOMETHING THAT IS ONLY 1-2.00$ ITS STILL PRICEY FOR MORE THAN 20 GUEST. SO I DECIDED THAT I WOULD BUY LITTLE CANDY MOLDES AND THE CHOCLATES THAT ARE ALREADY COLORED AND MOLD LITTLE PIECES OF CHOCOLATES (WEDDING BELLS, CAKE, BRIDE DRESS) WRAP IN PLASTIC OR IN THOSE CUTE CHINEESE TAKE OUT BOXES. ADORABLE!!!!

Laura -- Saturday, September 25 2004, 04:34 pm

Love the nailpolish idea along with the spa products for the winner of the centerpiece.

Mary -- Tuesday, October 12 2004, 04:59 pm

My daughter's shower is November 7th. Hobby Lobby just put their Christmas ornaments on half- price. They should make great favors.

Kimberly -- Monday, November 8 2004, 07:31 pm

I am also doing a Hawaiian Theme as my sister is getting married there. For favors, my (other) sister and I picked out an assortment of brightly colored gifts from the xmas tree shop. They include brightly striped small picture albums in tulle bags; martini glasses with blownglass fish as part of the stems; and mugs in cute boxes with matching coasters. I am trying to think of something for the men though...mixed cds of "island-type" music, wine, chocolates, nips of tequila or rum?

Kimberly -- Monday, November 8 2004, 07:32 pm

Oh as there are gonna be kids at the shower (very untraditional) we are also doing small tin pails full of cookies and small toys for the kids.

Crystal -- Thursday, December 2 2004, 11:21 am

For the Winter Wonderland - how about cute snowflake coffee cups filled with hot chocolate packets? you could personalize plain coffee cups with a nice pen to write the bride and groom's name and date of the wedding. wrap in cellophane, tie with a bow, and you're done. Or you could buy/make Christmas ornaments and personalize them. Or even get cute gloves or scarves for everyone.

Angell -- Wednesday, December 29 2004, 02:48 pm

My cousin is getting married in Sept and I'm throwing her shower in June. I need advice on very inexpensive favors because there will be a lot of guests! I love the nail polish idea but wonder if I could do that for under $1.00 per person.

Jen -- Tuesday, January 4 2005, 09:26 pm

A cute, cheap favor idea- Buy tuling and ribbon in the off-setting wedding colors. Use 1/2 cup M&M's or small candies and make little candy sacks. You may choose to attach a word-processed note like "Sweet of you to come today. Sarah's wedding shower February 14, 2005" CUTE & CHEAP

Marie -- Thursday, January 6 2005, 09:43 pm

I went to a baby shower once where the hostess made necklaces for everyone that were on blue ribbon and had a pacifier made from a jellybean and lifesaver. They were so cute! Everytime someone said Baby, they got the person's necklace. I would like an equivilent for the bridal shower I am throwing in 2 weeks. Any ideas????

mary -- Saturday, January 8 2005, 07:49 pm

Does anyone have an idea for a wedding shower with blue and brown? I'm thinking of a "chocolate" shower. Ideas for menus and favors and centerpieces would be appreciated!

Nicole Campbell -- Sunday, January 9 2005, 06:54 pm

Does anyone have any ideas about shower gifts ya know like prizes that you can get for really good prises and i'm a dollor store girl so it would be great if i could get some ideas for those types thanks everyone :)

Christine -- Monday, January 10 2005, 06:45 pm

Another cheap favor idea. Put hershey kisses in the bowl part of a wooden spoon, cover the bowl part in tuling and tie with ribbon. Then attach this note "A room full of love, a spoon full of kisses, soon [groom] and [bride] will be Mr. & Mrs." Then arrange them all in a pretty basket or water pitcher which would be another gift for the bride.

AS FAR AS WEDDING FAVORS GO, DONATING TO A CHARITY OR CHARITIES HAS BEEN A GREAT CHOICE FOR MY FIANCE AND I. MY FIANCE'S MOTHER PASSED AWAY WHEN HE WAS 11 WITH A BRAIN TUMOR, WE CONTACTED THE ORGANIZATION THAT HELPED HER AT THAT TIME AND DONATED MONEY AND THEY SENT US A CERTIFICATE THAT WE COULD DISPLAY AT OUR RECEPTION WHICH WE WILL BE DOING THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2005 ALONG WITH HER PICTURE. WE ALSO DONATED MONEY TO THE ALL VETERAN'S MEMORIAL WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE GETTING MARRIED ON EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, FORT WALTON BEACH FLORIDA, IN HONOR OF MY GRANDFATHER AND ALSO RECEIVED A CERTIFICATE WHICH WE CAN DISPLAY AT OUR RECEPTION. THIS HAS MADE OUR WEDDING A MORE MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE. WEDDING FAVORS WILL BE DISCARDED BUT THESE MEMORIES WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS!! SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. GOOD LUCK TO ALL

Kathryn -- Wednesday, March 2 2005, 12:02 pm

We based my sister's bridal shower around red roses, the same thing she's using for the wedding. We bought packages of 3 spoons for $1.50, coming to $0.50 a spoon. Then we bought red wrapped hershey's hugs and kisses, on clearance from valentines, then placed 2 kisses and one hug on the spoon part, covered it with red tulle and tied it with green ribbon. Then we placed them all in a vase with 3 fully open red silk roses and one red rose bud and between all the red tulle, green ribbon, and a few realistic silk roses it served as both a great holder and decoration.

annabelle -- Wednesday, March 2 2005, 09:39 pm

This was for the wedding favors, for the shower favors, but it was a good idea: At my friend's wedding this past summer they decided to donate to a cancer research charity in lieu of wedding favors. Her mom and his dad had both passed away from cancer in the past two years. At the reception, they had a table with the pictures of their parents and in front of that, a bowl with the yellow bracelets from the Lance Armstrong foundation. There was a note up asking guests to each take a bracelet and put them on and wear them today in honor of their parents. It was a beautiful display and a very classy gesture that might inspire ideas for anyone looking for a way to honor a loved one on this special day. And almost everyone I know is still wearing their "favor" today!

I enjoyed reading everybody's ideas today. My daughter is having a bridal shower thrown in her honour by her future sister-in-law and I have been invited. I have no idea what to buy for her. The theme for her wedding is red and gold.

Kori -- Saturday, April 23 2005, 11:15 pm

Radhika- Honestly if it is your daughter that is getting married, I would get her something personal maybe something that can be engraved or personalized somehow. I think that is the best gift a mother could give. Maybe if she doesnt have her jewelry for her wedding maybe buy her some nice real jewelery but not to spendy or something, I dont know but those are a couple ideas I would love to get from my mom.

Elizabeth -- Sunday, May 1 2005, 12:04 pm

I am hosting a bridal shower for a very close friend of mine, since I am the maid of honor. Either in late June or July. I found an inexpensive gift. Hope some people enjoy this idea. Place 2-3 life saver mints in a little bag/envelope. On the bag/envelope write w/ a marker or pen the following:

Mint to Be

______________'s Bridal Shower Name of Bride

______________________________ Date of Event

Guest can enjoy the mint after eating or save for later.

grace -- Wednesday, May 11 2005, 11:01 am

An idea for the shower to help out the bride is to get all the guests to fill out their name and address on an envelope when they first come in. This way you have everyone's name for a prize draw at the party AND you have the "thank-you" envelopes already addressed for the bride. I'm also looking for a personalized, unique gift idea for my sister. She's getting married in July and I'm the maid of honour...

Jenn -- Thursday, May 19 2005, 10:42 pm

I am the maid of honor of my best friend's wedding, and she planned a fairy tale wedding. Do you think that the shower could also go along with the theme of the wedding? If yes, what type of favors could u give, that would be different than the ordinary but very special. The bridesmaid and me are trying to make this extra specail n we are in a jam.

mauiwahine213 -- Sunday, May 22 2005, 05:53 pm

To Sherrie: I just wanted to correct the spelling of layes? It is actually spelled leis. Nikki-- We decided to go camping. We're going to give the bride and groom a scavenger hunt with the ultimate destination being their tent full of naughty and nice gifts. Other than that, it's kind of a nice way to just relax, reminise, and enjoy each other before the new couple finds out about marriage. :)

I really appreciate all of the suggestions that you all have shared. You see I have been so stressed out because none of my friend's bridal party has attempted to throw a bridal shower for my friend and the wedding is July 9! So the brave person that I am, I decided I would throw a bridal shower for my friend. It is in 3 more days. I didn't make it a themed shower because I don't want people to feel obligated to have to buy a particular present and plus I don't have a lot of money to spend (I just racked up a $52,000 hoepital stay in May). One way to save money on the bridal shower I am making Orange Cream Pies. My friend doesn't like cake and the ingredients for the pie are inexpensive, I did ask the Matron of Honor to purchase beverages. Another way to save money on showers is to ask different organizations if they loan their building (for instance I live on a golf course and I asked the manager if I could rent out the clubhouse for the bridal shower and she said I could for only $25) the soon to be bride's father got permission for us to use the Veteran's Hall but there is alot of cigarette smoke in there, there is another place in town the local Grainge and they rent out their buildings for way cheap, even your local parks and community services is a good place to try. Anyways I think it is great that we can all share ideas with each other to help keep our pocket books a little more safe. Remember that the purpose of a bridal shower is to have fun and create a memory that the soon to be bride will cherish. Oh one more idea that I have used for the shower is that I purchase a cute journal from the dollar store and I am going to ask the gals to pass it around and write some practical tips or advice about keeping the marriage strong, being that my friend's mother isn't going to be there or be at the wedding due to health concerns she can't travel the long distance.

Tradewinds is delighted to offer some of the most stunning and romantic destinations in the world to ensure that when you take your vows, you know that your wedding day is the most important day wherever you are in the world. Imagine the dramatic landscapes of Australia as your wedding backdrop, the pristine white sands of the Caribbean, the exotic Far East or the natural beauty of the Indian Ocean. .

Hello,

My best friends fiancee asked me to throw her a shower for all the Ontario, Canada guests who cannot attend the wedding in Moncton, NB, Canada. I am not her maid of honour. I have 1 week to pull it all together! I decided to have small potted plants as the party favours and I will be playing some of those silly games. Anyone have any cute ideas of what I can give out as prizes for the wedding shower game gifts??

Thanks

Diana

Coming up with ideas for party favors is no easy taks. But here are a few I have used in the past:

Coffee Scoop with some chocolate coverd coffee beans wrapped in cellophane and a tag that read: Kim and Mark the Perfect Blend

I also gave homemade chocolate fudge ice cream topping (in a decorative jar) with and ice cream scooper.the label on the jar read: Jasper and Diane and their wedding date

Dear Bride and Groom to be:

If you are considering video for your Wedding Day, let us be there to capture your day as it unfolds with your family and friends.

Professional videography saves and protects life's most precious and beautiful moments - as they actually happened. And what is more important, to hold precious than the sights and sounds from the most important day of your life - your wedding day! Because the event goes by so quickly, capturing all the activities, your ceremony and reception, on video will mean your wedding will be preserved for you and your family now, and most importantly... for all the generations ahead.
