Don't focus on "colors" Instead, look at sample flower arrangements and use a pallet that is pleasing to your eye. Get together with your bridesmaids to select a color from the pallet for their dresses.I hate seeing weddings that look like a prom with school theme colors. You don't want someone rememering your baby blue wedding!

I am getting married in late September and I decided on cranberry and pumpkin for my colors. The girls' dresses are a deep red and they will carry roses in shades of deep red and orange. They're fallish colors, but also late summerish as it may still be warm.

I think a great color scheme for a wedding would be the traditional pure white dress (maybe not traditionally cut) and the brides maid could wear a light blue and the flower girls could wear dark blue with pure white ribbons incorporated (in hair or something) That same scheme could be incorporated into a vest for the groom and I think a star or winter theme reception

I think a great way to pick wedding colors or schemes is to go to a florist and ask to see seasonal bouqets. I am having a fall wedding and couldn't decide on a color and finally had inspriation from my flowers. Also don't be so set on one or two colors, use that seasonal bouqet as an example and use a variety of colors that are coordinated. However I’m now working on the bridesmaids dresses and I can not decide on the color burgundy or bordeaux I really like the color bordeaux however my wedding is during the day and I don’t want it to look too dark how can I avoid this from happening? If you lke the bordeaux, go with that. Roses and lillies are all beautiful. Yellows or golds always works well with reds ( they are also fall colors). Good Luck

Rena-There is nothing wrong with wearing white for your 2nd wedding. I'm getting married for the 2nd time next May. I haven't decided on my dress yet, but I think its old fashioned to think you aren't "worthy" of white anymore. As for your colors, I think its really your preference. I'm trying to decide between an ice blue & silver or mango & hot pink. I'm not sure that either of them are "spring" colors either.

All of your color choices/combos sound wonderful. I especially like the 3 color combos. I'm a mixed media artist who also designs wedding invitations & stationery. Design elements of odd numbers are always appealing to the eye. I'm seeing a lot of red in the list here and navy/blue, also burgundy (accents could be pale plum/platinum) at least for the winter & fall weddings. I predict that silver, shiny or matte, will be the *hot* metallic accent again, with copper trailing behind (would be a great accent w/ burgundy & orange) Gold is making a comeback though I think it will be more *aged and vintage* looking. For Spring & Summer, I think the citrusy brights will still be going strong. I like the color combo of medium blue, mellow orange and sage green. Keeping colors in the same *temperature* is another safe way to go. Overall though you could just go with your faves - it is your day after all :)

I'm having a OCT 04' wedding and am going to have burgundy/navy with a accent of gold. Does that like it goes together?

For my fellow Autumn brides (ours is Oct 2004), I suggest a palette of jewel-tones. (No need to stick to just two colors. Autumn is an extremely colorful time of year.) Make them deep, bright, or muted, whichever you like best. Pick one or two colors to start, then build. I started with antique gold, because I happen to look really good in that color. I think it's more important to base your colors on your own skin/hair/eyes than on the season or the time of day. After all, you will be surrounded by these colors all day! As accent colors, I chose dark amethyst and ruby red. (Ruby is my birthstone.) I also wanted emerald green, but decided I'd get plenty from the ivy and ferns. I got the idea for jewel tones because our wedding theme is "treasure," which is a metaphor for "cherish." I'm loading the decor with these colors, and sprinkling lots of colored glass gems and gold candles throughout. Best wishes and God's blessings for your weddings! :-D

Platnum and White

I just got engaged and most of the decisions are left up to me. The way I chose my colors already is from my ring. Since the bride's and grroms rings are platnum I'm going with platnum and White.And since Platnum is like a color that has silver with a hint of blue in it, it give him his color that he likes which is blue. Its pretty basic yet it'll b elegant and not too many colors to make things look crowded. We want a clean look. I'm also going to incorporate same color Smiley faces within the theme since thats a theme I so much as live by. My groom mainly just wants things to be contemporary yet elegant.

Hey Frankie - I admire your boldness in color choices. My suggestion would be to use artificial flowers. It would even save you money and you have many more choices to go with for flowers, especially since you won't have to worry about a particular flower being in season. Good luck!

I was married in May in an afternoon ceremony, I used pastel shades of blue and pink with white.The bouquets were hand-tied with silver ribbon and the effect was really nice. Silver is black's friend. You can wear something silver with black accents. You can even were black and white. But not all black. Although it's kind of hard to juggle the weather, the time of day, and the fact that the location is Miami... Silver & Black, and Black & (Winter) White are safe and CLASSIC bets.

You can also look at the colors of the wedding party. Try to find something close to those colors, with out making people think you are part of the wedding party.

susan- the way to choose colors is to look at the season. burgundy and plum are kind of dark for a summer wedding.

A good way to find colors would be to go to a hardware store and look in the paint department. The paint chip section has all the colors of the rainbow its easy to see what looks good and what you like when they are right in front of you. Hope this helps!

Cherry - If you want to use fall like colors for your August wedding go for it! It's your day and whatever colors you decide to use will be gorgeous! There are so many different shades of fall "like" colors -- also, you could accent these colors with silver and/or ivory an lots of greens at the reception. In my opinion August is between summer and fall so do what you want and be confident in your decision. Do what makes you happy, not what others think you should do! Good luck!

any color is appropriate. :) i'm sure whatever you pick will be beautiful! i don't think colors like lavender, pink, yellow, or other spring colors should be limited to seasons...after all, it is YOUR wedding and you should like the color scheme. however, if you want to make your colors seem a little more toned down for the season, i find that an ivory or off white shade works because its not as "white" as say...white. good luck with the wedding!

Sarah~ I am having a June wedding also. I too had a hard time picking out colors. I have chosen to do buttercup/yellow, with lilac and lavender as my accents. I saw a bouquet in a Bridal magazine that had these three colors in it and it was beautiful. Each made the other pop. You want to choose a color that is flattering to all your bridesmaids. Red is usually a good color for most people. Red roses look great against an all white dress. Even prettier against a diamond white or off white. Celedron, with corals, and yellows is also a fun combo for summer. Good Luck!

I am getting married in the late afternoon of June. The wedding will take place on the beach on a very tropical island. I've had in mind a light green/celadon because of my invitations and other accents I already have for the reception. However, because it is on the beach and under white drapery I feel I need a brighter color. I was thinking of coral but I'm not sure if this will look okay. I also like bright yellow orchids with red roses for an island theme. If I use these colors I won't be able to use the green and I have already delivered the invitations. Erica -- do what you want. It's your wedding. But red and blue on your attendants would look lovely if you and your groom will be in white. You may want to put everyone in blue except your maid of honor (red) and best man (red tie or cumberbun or vest or whatever.) Or vice versa. Or, have everyone in blue and emphasize the red flowers and have your bridesmaids wear red flowers in their hair. Just some idea.

Jenn -- late summer colors: In late summer, most areas have darker green foliage, so colors that are not too deep but are vibriant will look great. Examples: Pink, baby blue, and orange. Stay away from pastels (pale pink, light yellow) or very dark colors (burgandy, navy blue.) Avoid colors that will be hidden in dark foliage, such as turquoise, green and medium to dark blues.

First of all it is important to remember that this is your day ladies. Choose colors that you enjoy. Visit your local flower shop and pick out variations of the hues you are interested in as well as various flowers available for that particular season. Colors are unlimited however; some flower choices can be very expensive depending on the season and its availability. The florist will be more than happy to show you several color variations for whatever you are interested in.

Yadira- Sky blue is great in september. Try pairing it with an ocean blue and silver or with a violet, just stay in the cool color family.

Corey- shades of green look good with banana, as well as lots of "greenery" with calla lillies being your main flower.

I am getting married in October 2004. I am using deep pink and sherbet orange roses and light green hydrangea for my flowers. My bridesmaids dresses will be somewhere in between a celadon and pear green and will be made of silk dupioni. My original wedding date was in September, which in Texas, is still summer. The leaves don't usually start changing here until at least November, so I didn't think twice about using my same colors until my mom asked me if I was going to change my colors since we moved the wedding back a month. I am wearing black in a June outdoor wedding which kind of confirmed my understanding that anything goes these days, it doesn't have to be seasonal colors.

Her husband picked up a collarless white shirt that was to be worn untucked(straight edged bottom) for a more relaxed look...for some pics they walked in the water side by side, he had pant legs rolled up a bit she was holding her dress and he had his arm at her waist..the pics were awesome...they also had a big heart drawn in the sand with their initials and fuchia flower petals scattered around the outline of the heart.... they looked awsome....

I am playing right now with using a theme that is quite asian in colors but without using the actual :"asian inspired" stuff like fortune cookies etc. the colors we are using are really bold fuchias, greens, oranges,reds and yellows with antiqued gold candelbras, brightly colored lanterns, lots of candles...basically just areally warm, bright hed reception. We are using an indigo blue on bridesmaids and the vests etc. for groom as well as the napkins. we are trying to incorporate touches of blue here and there as well. we are covering the ceiling in the reds, fuchias and orange balloons filled with helium to give the room a glow as the lights will shine through... I have seen a picture of a reception done like this and it looks really neat....lots of bright flowers, white lights and tulle as well.... hope this helps...there are so many options for choosing decore this way!! :-)

to all the ladies who are having troubles with colors, do what i did on my first wedding..(planning another one now)I went to the hardware store and got free paint swatches and looked in decorating books for accenting colors.. who knows better what collors compliment each other than a professional decorator. Once again, before choosing a color make sure it suits all of your bridesmaids. I manage a higher end clothing store and I see it all the time... I know it is important for you to look your best, however, your bridal party is putting a lot of $$ into this. Make sure they are happy at least with the style and color of their dress. Even more important then the colors you pick is the fabric..for example..dont pick velvet in summer! I would stay using the same sort of tones..for example, DONT use a hot pink with champagne...use a softer, prettier pink, a bit darker than a blush pink..amost a peachy color...keep the tones really soft and warm

Hi guys, Mary, I would wait awhile before picking colors. 2006 is quite awile yet...colors will change as will styles. Start looking about a year before you get married. There is so much that can change in two years like weight, popular themes colors...etc. If you find a dress you like now, it might not be available for ordering then. Concentrate on the objects for your wedding that wont change. For example, if you want pillars decorated maybe you can spend some time making your own, collecting ivy strands frm craft stores to decorate reception amongst whatever flowers you end up choosing. Stick to the basics till you get cloer. Every season every year color availability changes. Save $$ as you might end up having to redo things later.

KRISTA: Lilac is very pretty when mixed with silver. Waht about the girls in lilac, boys in silver vests and a soft pink flower for both with silver accents?? Silver nad lilac decorations and amybe pink accents here and there?? I think you are on to a very pretty color scheme.

I think for a spring or summer wedding, how about the colors of rasperberries and blueberries and then have lots of those berries as accents on the cake and could be something you put on the tables instead of mints? Hi everyone, This doesn't have much to do with colors but rather with attire. I am having a tropical wedding on the beach this June. My dress is a strapless A-line, beaded and the fabric is satin. My fiance is wearing kaki pants and a white linen shirt. I was thinking of wearing a shoulder lenght veil but I am not sure if this will make my attire way too formal compared to his. I am having some serious trouble deciding on wedding colors! Someone please help me!! I am getting married next May. The ceremony is going to be held indoors in front of large windows that face the ocean. It will be late in the afternoon and the sun will be setting on the other side (the windows face East) so it will be light but not necessarily "sunny". The reception is being held in a ballroom at the same location. The lights will be very dim... lots of candles and dimmed chandelier lights. And as far as the dress, I said i didn't want a traditional gown or anything elaborate, and i came out with something that so wasn't what i had origanally wanted! Ok, I am getting married on November 20, 2004. My colors are Royal Blue, Silver, and White. We have had four other weddings planned, and they have all had to be post poned because we are paying for this ourselves for the most part. I found invitations that have a snowman bride and groom on the top. They are perfect for me because snowmen are my favorite. Some people might think that it is cheesy to decorate your wedding reception with snowmen and fake snow, but I like it. So girls, please don't be so worried about what everyone else thinks, it is your wedding and you should like the way it looks. My own mother has asked me if I was sure that I wanted snowmen, but I do. I want them and I am going to have them. I'm not trying to sound like you, but the one diamond on my finger is worth more than $13K. You and your fiance might want to make sure the diamonds are real before you go on bragging to the world about your wedding, wedding dress and everything else (except for the fact that this will be your final marriage because it is based on love). I first contacted the place where I would be having my wedding at and she told me that the colors of the tropical flowers she would be gardening with then are a mixture of, Hot pink not the exotic pink, violet, a mixture of reds, and burgundy. I'm getting married in March 2005, I'm the oldest in my family. I have no Idea how a wedding is planned. I looking for tips on what colors to go for. I want my wedding to be unique I have been to some weddings and most of them had the same colors ( red, burgandy, navy blue) I want my wedding to be different.

I live in Minnesota and personally with the changing of the seasons here any wedding from say October through January the colors should be darker colors then from feb through sept i think they should be light colors but that is because of the different colors outside each season. There are soo many different colors to chose from and I think if you just go looking and find a color you like go for it. I am sure everything will go together smoothly and it is just something that we all worry about. I haven't picked a color either! there are too many to choose from. Good Luck to EVERYONE!!!

Tonya- with Mauve I would either do some sort of green color or a tan color I think tan would look really nice with mauve.

My fiance and I were going to wait until I graduated from college to get married, so we could afford the wedding I've always dreamed of; a gorgeous dress, many beautiful flowers, an elaborate reception,etc. However, we recently found out that my mother has cancer in her spine and I now have reevaluated what my dream wedding actually is. It is a wedding with my family and friends and especially my mother. We have now set a date to get married and if need be we will move the date up. Jessica - I used pale yellow (banana) and white with my sage green. My wedding is this July and my theme was daisies! Since my bridesmaids are all different weights, I let them choose their own style of dress that looks awesome on them with the only stipulaton that they had to be black, no sequins, no other colours. To bring in the sage green and pale yellow, I made them chiffon scarves to put around the front of their neck. My maid of honor wore the sage green and my bridesmaids wore the pale yellow. The best man is wearing a black tux with a sage green tie and vest and the other groomsmen are wearing pale yellow ties and pale yellow vests with their black tuxes.

This comment is for Jessica, A great color that compliments sage green is peach. You could use a color combination of dark green, sage green and peach.

Lori- Since you are having your wedding in late September I think a combination of autumn colors would look best. you could use yellow along with burnt orange and brown. Or instead of yellow you could use a burgundy color.

Ok, I've been reading way to many wedding books. One last comment, keep in mind when you are choosing your colors that you don't always have to have 2 colors that match each other. Try doing patterns of a single color, like patterns of pink. You could carry out the same pattern on your save the dates, invitations, centerpieces and favors.

This is to ella in response to your comment to tiffany rose. i kind of feel the same way i always told myself if i was to become rich that i would still go shop at like walmart. i would keep the small three bedroom house that i own i wouldnt go out and by some mansion that would take me a whole week to go through the whole thing. My wedding gown cost me $561. It was $384 for the gown and $177 for the alterations. My shoes cost me $40. The most expensive thing for our wedding which is next weekend june 19 is our reception hall which costs us $2000. I dont need big expensive things now and i wouldnt need them then. I would probably buy me some nice things but a $13,500 wedding gown and $700 for each bridemaids gown for one day is a lot to much its a waste money to do that your just going to wear it one time. my bridesmaid gowns costs $130. Kristin - I think you should have pink and silver for your September wedding. The colors look great together. You could have the bridesmaids in a pastel pink and then have the guys suit color black with silver vests. I think Pewter is like a dark silver color.

congrats to all the couples! my wedding is 10/08/05 and i hv chosen the color combos of either bronze/plum/cream or bronze/burgandy/cream. I found the easiest way to decide on colors was to go online and see what flowers were available for that month. I went to www.freshroses.com and pulled up my wedding month. It gave me a full list of available flowers for October and as I looked at each flower it told me what colors they came in. This was very helpful.

Hey Jessica My wedding is this saturday. i am using a combination of light blue dark blue and white but some other colors are you could do light blue dresses with light yellow and white flowers which is what i was going to at first but what else you could use is a dusty rose color is beautiful its like a dark pink and cream colored flowers or like ivory and the dusty rose togather. but the sage green dresses with ivory colored roses would be beautiful too.

My fiance and I decided on periwinkle blue and celadon for our colors - we're getting married 1/29/05 in Tampa, FL. The bridesmaids' dresses and groomsmen's vests will be periwinkle, with celadon for the maid of honor and best man. Maybe she could wear a white dress with green or red bows in her hair. Center pieces are bright colorful pointsettas for that Christmas time look. The ring bear could wear a white dress shirt, black pants, and a red tie. Why not have a snow flake wedding cake useing crystal candy.

Fall Wedding ideas: Buy leaves and spray paint them silver, organe, red, and gold, lay them every where in the cruch for starter, Bring in a few trees for a fall look if you can, burgundui brides maid dresses would be really pretty, and for the men black tuxes with silver and black swirl vests. For a fall look have a baskest made up for the flower girl with leaves. Her dress could be burdundui as well with black gloves for her hands. The ring bear could wear a silver dress shirt and black pants with a tie. The cake would look really cool with fall leaves and colors used.

Try tulips pink, yellow, white and lavender. You could always go with a bunch of different colors for a brighter look. Stay away from canddles it's spring and it's hot out side. The ring bear could wear a kelly green shirt and black dress pants. You could always have a butterfly look with flowers every where for a spring time look. This is to Jenny. In trying to resolve my own color scheme dilema I saw a suggestion for deep purple/violet/grape and white or ivory with a touch of yellow as a color scheme for a winter wedding. The suggestion was that the attendants' dresses be heavy fabric like velvet. This sounds beautiful to me. I also read that dark blues (navy, cobalt, sapphire) are very popular for fall and winter.

I have reviewed every bridal magazine I could get my hands on for the past 6 months and most dresses (even for winter) are strapless. So I think you're fine on that issue. I looked far and wide to find an informal gown with sleeves. . Hope this little helps. . .

Kelly, I wish I had your imagination for planning my own wedding! I haven't been able to come up with a theme to follow! I really don't have any suggestions - platinum and white sound beautiful but would be difficult for me to carry throughout the ceremony and reception. Anything I can think of would spoil the stark look of platinum and white. You might want to add some greenery. . . and pale blue comes to mind when I think of Cinderella. . . (I'm a big Disney World fan)

One thing I'm planning to do at my reception that you may consider is using sparklers instead of rice/ bird seed/ or bubbles. . . Sorry I can't help more and wish you the best. . .

I haven't received much input on this site to my dilema but have decided to use darker periwinkle and blues with the light periwinkle of my sister's dress. I will probably still accent with dark pinks hoping the dark blues will help pull off a fall outdoor wedding. . . Our wedding is October 9.

I decided on the sparklers while I was considering a fairytale theme. I'm using tiny white lights in the trees also. But my fiance wasn't crazy about the whole fairy tale theme so I will probably forego the "theme" idea and just hope the weather, food, and drink are great!

I'm getting married in October, my colors are navy and platinum. I have found bouquets for my maid and matron (navy with Platinum ribbons. The problem is that I cannot find platinum bouquets for my bridesmaids. Their dresses are navy, my maid and matron dresses are platinum. Do anyone have any suggestions?

HELLO :) Wow, so many people getting married...congratulations to all!!!! I am also getting married (yaaayyyy!) and the date is in December!!!! My fiancé and myself will be having a smaller wedding--100 max invites, no wedding party other than our parents. This message is for Sabrina. I love the idea of an october wedding...if I were not living in Mexico, I would definitely look into a fall wedding as it is such a beautiful time. I love the colours of deep orange (rustic) and deep deep green as you can play a lot with the colours and incorporate them in so many different ways. The contrast of these deep colours would accentuate the white/pearl/cream of your gown, and brighten the day or evening if it is cloudy. With white/golden long candles?? There are even orange cala lilies that are beautiful and elegant. You can even ask a seamstress or the boutique in which you bought your gown for a shawl...for the chilly fall breezes...just incase you get cold...Personally, I think the chilly climate makes it that much more romantic....but then again I may be biast...hehehe! I hope these ideas help;)

Iya...there are so many colours you can choose from,..I think bright colours look amazing on darker skin! I personally would totally play up your environments using brights greens in combinations with bright pinks, reds, oranges....in combination with your dark complexion and white dress...or will you be wearing a red dress...or both?? Red dress would definitely look nicer with white flowers for contrast but white dress would look spectacular wiht tropical colours. Maybe incorporating tropical folliage in your bouquet would also be a nice touch to bring a bit of your surroundings in your celebration. YOur bridesmaides could also wear combinations of these bright colours....and since it is a day wedding shorter dresses would look beautiful on them...maybe just below knee length with flats for sandles. So many things you can do to play up these colours....i t definitely think pinks, reds and oranges look nicer on brown people moreso than greens....hope it helps:)

I'm going to get married end of next year..(no set date yet but most likely November) but the colors will be scarlet (dark red) and amber (honey like yellow). They are very warm and I want the centerpieces to be copper colored urns with beautfiful dark red tablecloths and yellow rose petals scattered around the table. I'm also going to paint small glass votive holders with red and amber colored glass paint so that the candle light will have a warmer feel as well. I think the scarlet, amber, and copper are also good fall color combinations.

ASHLEE: I like your color combinations and dont think you have to be limited to just two. I think sage, lavender and ivory would look beautiful together in a bouquet or centerpiece and then you can add touches of sage and lavender into the decor. I think even all four colors would look great together if they were all kept pale enough. Hope that helps a bit. :)

MELISSA- I found some info about yellow. Summer brides might choose flowers in happy shades of yellow. Spring daffodils and tulips, buttery roses, alstromeria, carnation, chrysanthemum, freesia, mimosa, ranumculus, stock, and sunflowers are just a few of the many choices in yellow. Pairing yellow with either green or white is another wonderful combination. Hope this might help you out!!!

This is for Erika who said she is having her wedding in june of 2006 and loves light blue. I just got married this june 19 2004 and me and my husband both love the color blue so we used the colors light blue dark blue and white for the flowers the groomsmens vests and bridesmaids dresses were light blue but you can also do it the other way around since both colors of blue are there the vests and dresses can be dark blue. One thing that i was thinking of using at first was to have light blue pale yellow and white roses with light blue dresses and vests which you could also change it to yellow for this. Okay, Ladies...Here are my two cents on colors that suit particular seasons and just about any skin tone: Fall or Winter: Cranberry Red, Eggplant Purple, Dark Teal Blue (NOT Teal GREEN), Mocha or Cafe Au Lait, Chocolate, Platinum, Black, Midnight Blue, Navy Blue, Moss Green, Dusty Mauve, Hunter/Forest Green.

Spring or Summer: Navy or Midnight Blue (seasonless), Peach, Apricot, Punch, Robins Egg Blue, Pacific Blue, Cornflower Blue, Sage Green, Pink, Aqua Blue.

I think red and black look good in a summer evening wedding, too.

Coral and orange tones are beautiful, but do not look good on everyone. They should be used in late Summer and Fall.

Lavendar and Yellow are pretty colors for Spring and Summer, but again, they do not look good on everyone. Same goes for those trendy, striking sherbert colors: They are really hit or miss, depending on the skintone you are trying to compliment.

Here are some colors that I personally think are pretty outdated right now: Plain Baby Blue, Teal Green, Pastel Green, Periwinkle. I can personally testify that being a bridesmaid in any of these colors does not feel pretty. Now that I am planning my own wedding, I vow not to choose a color that even one of my bridesmaids is unhappy with. The key is picking a color scheme that looks good on all skintones, and that is appropriate to the season. Choose wisely. These should be your closest girlfriends for the rest of your life...And one day they could be choosing colors for you to wear in their weddings.

I hope that I have helped someone, and not offended anyone. These are my personal opinions, and I am by no means a professional...Just a starry-eyed bride-to-be with all of these ideas floating through my head.

Tell me your color(s), and I will give you some ideas on complimenting them with accent colors, like for the flowers.

Examples of what I think go well:

Yellow and green florals with Chocolate Bridesmaid Dresses.

White and/or yellow flowers against Red in Summer. If using Red in colder seasons, pair with bouquets full of vibrant fall colors: reds, oranges, corals, greens, purples. Use some twiggy-type natural accents in with bouquets. This is a very striking look.

Peonies look beautiful in Spring or Summer. For that matter, any flower that looks full and fluffy is pretty for spring or summer. Billowy whites and pale pinks remind me of lush Spring/Summer gardens. In winter, I like a more striking, bold-shaped and -colored bloom.

Look at or think of the color wheel for colors that are opposite one another to find ways to set off different colors you have already chosen. This should give you a basic idea of what color families compliment what...Go from there, finding the hue and shade in each family that balances that of its complimentary color.

I want a summer wedding, and I would like it at about 7:30pm or so when the sun is turning that orange romantic color. But I have decided on my wedding colors to be true red, gold, and white. Would it look stupid if i had these colors in the summer and at the time of day I want. Many people when I tell them my colors they think it will be a winter or christmas wedding. How can I avoid that look and make the wedding look classy and romantic at the same time?

Tracy, Allison, Sherry, and Connie... I see that you all may be interested in using Sage Green as one of your color schemes. I am also! I am getting married June 18 05' and I have chosen to go with Sage Green, Pink and White or Ivory. A lot of people (from what I have been told) use Sage Green with Peach, Yellow, or Purple. But I love green and I love Pink, so I am going to try to put the two together. They do actually look very nice together. I love Roses, so that is the flower I will be using with everything! Hey Kim... I think colors for sage green bridesmaid dresses (which I am using also) could be yellow, peach, purple or pink. I will have sage green bridesmaid dresses with ivory or pink ice trim with the girls carrying pink and white/ivory roses. Hope this helps!

Hello Jeri I think yellow is pretty with red. You don't see it much but it will make your wedding one people will remember. I would go with a dark red like you see on roses and pale yellow. Those two colors are beautiful togather. I saw those two colors done up in a bouquet in a wedding magazine i have. Hope that helps you. You can go to like a walmart in your area and go to where the artificial flowers are and put those colors togather just to see how they look. Good luck.

Beth -- Golds or ivories would look lovely with Red. Maybe some ivory roses? Very classic.

Lori -- Are there any other colors in your wedding scheme? Maybe a touch of bold red or burgundy (roses, poinsettas) or a deep purple (irises or delphiniums) would be a great pop of color.

Chanelle & Chandra Brown -- what colors do you like? You could choose anything from bright, "springy" colors, to bold afternoon tones, or soft pastels. Look around to see what appeals to you and your hubby-to-be. If nothing strikes you, find a flower or flowers you like and look to see what colors they are available in, and go from there, matching or complementing those shades.

Frank -- what shades of red and green? If you both like the darker shades, you could go with deep red flowers or other accents with lots of green foliage everywhere. If you're wearing suits or tuxes, maybe you both wear black, with ties or vests in your favorite colors? With two dark colors, try to pick a third -- like black, silver, white or ivory -- to be predominant, and use the dark colors as accents. If you prefer a lighter shade of green -- like a celadon or sage or even an olive (which is more neutral), you can easily use that with a deep red as your two predominant colors.

Jennet -- The white and pink stargazers would look lovely with purple and blue. If he really hates blue, though, a shade of green that you can both agree on would do nicely. Or, keep it simple, and stick to light pinks, purples (either dark or light), and whites or ivories.

Eileen -- Apple Red outside in July? That's beautiful. If it's a late afternoon/evening wedding, you might want to stick to those fiery shades (golds, oranges, and deep reds), for an earlier wedding, lighten it up with some yellow or ivory or maybe sage green.

Red would be a nice color for your bridesmaids dresses, but the carpet in the church being a problem, I thing you should cover the aisle with a roll out white path, and maybe put some thick toole with ivy wrapped in it along the sides of the aisle. No, I don't think you should have red flowers with red dresses. That is a bit much. But maybe you could have Calalillies in white or light pink. They would be perfect in a bunch. As well as combinations of turqouise and tangerine. Cornflower blue and burnt orange look nice, too. I am still searching on-line for the right combination. My Fiance LOVES sky blue but I have always wanted to have a Deep red dress with white rose and other white flowers with a deep red flower accent and the bridesmaids all wear white with the red roses and babys breath as accent flowers. My fiance and I are getting married September 2005. My vision of the perfect colors for that time of year would be Gold(almost a burnt color). Pumpkin centerpiece with cut out heart shapes with candles inside and pumkins also gutted with fall colored mums. (cheap and neat idea). I also think that instead of rose petals on tables and walkway for bride and groom that it would be neat to use fall colored leaves. (of course nice and clean). I could go on and on about more ideas but I think everyone would getted tired of reading. I've never been married but I've been planning this since I was a little girl so I have this image in my mind.

I think a baby blue with accents of Platnum and yellow would be great for the season. You could offset the blues and yellow. To offset the yellow and blues I would add some tropical green tree plants (fake ones work great. Family dollar store, you have to work with them but they work). Add some white christmas lights to the trees and distrubute throughout the reception area to add some punch to the blues and yellows.

My fiance is also in the military (airforce) and we will be getting married when he returns from Iraq next year. Hello All! I am also getting married in September 2005. It took me a while to get my colors all picked out, but I did. My bridesmaids will be wearing a dark red dress (Davids Bridal calls it apple red). My groomsmen will be wearing tuxes with a vest and tie that matches the color of the dreses exactly. The girls will be holding all rose bouqets in the colors of red, burnt orange and a soft/burnt looking yellow (fall colors). The centerpieces will be 24inch eiffle tower vases filled with all roses in the cordinating colors with minimal greenery. The water in the centerpieces will be dyed a very light orange. Girls, trust me, these colors look gorgeous together. I've already booked the florist and asked her to make me a sample centerpiece. Hey all! If anyone is confused on what colors go together all you need to do is go to you local flower shop and ask the florist to see some pictures of all available color creations. You can also tell the florist your wedding colors and ask her what she invisions and if the colors and flowers will be easy to find and put together. You would probably want to go to several different floral shops and see what each one offers. Although you may not book with them, it never hurts to borrow their ideas. Hope this helps. Have you thought about having your groom/fiance wearing a black suit/tux with a white vest/white tie/and white shirt to match YOU (it looks very elegant). And then have your BEST MAN wear the black suit with the black vest and tie to match your maid of honor. As for the rest of you groomsmen, have them wear the wine colored vest with the black suit so that they can match the bridesmaids. Just an idea..hope it helped.

Hi my fiancee and I have set the date of July 23rd, 2005. We basically have the colors set for the bridal party where I will be wearing white, my fiancee will be wearing black and all white inside. The bridesmaids will be wearing light gold, and the groomsmen will be wearing black tuxes with light gold vests and white underneath that.

I am having trouble with the flower combination though. I am thinking about having all white roses for my bouquet, for my matron & maid of honor, have white and light yellow roses, and then my bridesmaids will have a combination of white and yellow with some lilac flowers mixed in between. I dont want roses for the bridesmaids.

this is for avis i think that a light blue color would go perfect with the seamist color. you can go to a store in your neighborhood that sells artificial flowers and put those two colors togather like that just to see how they look togather. i pictured the two colors togather and i think it is beautiful you could also try seamist and light pink. good luck.

To everyone needing help with their flowers. I just got married this past June 19, 2004. I used artificial roses in dark blue light blue and white with silver ribbon in my bouquet and the bridesmaids had kind of a cerulean color blue ribbon in theirs. I think it is better to use artificial flowers because for one reason you can keep your bouquet forever and you dont have to worry about your flowers wilting by the end of the night. i had a separate bouquet for me to toss it just had white roses and silver ribbon my aunt made all of the bouquets for me and when you use artificial flowers you can have any colors you want because with real flowers if you choose roses like i did there arent any real roses that are blue. i hope this helps some of you out.

dear all brides to be, i would not worry about what colors are good for the time that you are getting married. i would just go with your favorite colors. i got married in june and me and my husband both like the color blue so we used a variety of blue. alot of brides just decide to go with thier favorite colors. alot of brides use blue like i did it seems to me that this is really popular. i went to two other weddings before mine and both brides used blue. one got married in november of 2003 and the other got married in april of 2003 and then i got married in june of 2004 and we all had the same color. a girl i know who got married in july used maroon as their color. so see it doesnt matter what month your getting married in just chose colors you like and go with it.

Congrats girls on the weddings!! There seems to be SO much confusion with wedding planning...I didn't realize how much was involved. For all of you having a September 2005 wedding (or fall wedding) this might be helpful for you. It sounds weird so just hear me out. My fiancee and I decided on Navy Blue and Tangerine...I know, weird. But it looks really awesome together. The bridesmaids dresses are navy blue and the flowers will be dyed tangerine-colored roses with blue stephanotis and delphinium flowers mixed in. As long as you don't go crazy with the tangerine color, it will look GREAT for a fall wedding!!!

OK...My boyfriend and I are actually getting married around Dec.17th.of this year. Nickkie, I think your choices will be beutiful together. But is you wedding a day or night wedding? If day, I would sugest a lighter or brighter green in the flowers. As for an opinion on summer colors, I think bold pinks or yellows are the best combinations. Tulips and calla lilies are pretty. Or try White flowers with green, that's always fresh.

In response to Carrie, (Dec. 4th) Try Different shades of dark reds and purples all mixed together. Dark roses look great with dark calla lillies.

I am a wedding planner as well..but I have a different take on "color". What do I suggest everyone do? Explore your own personal color preferences. Then, learn how to put those preferences into action. I ALWAYS take my inspiration from Fashion and Home decor trends. An easy trick: Go to a home decor magazine (find one that talks about trends for 2005) - find a color scheme some designer did for a room - if you like it, copy the colors for your reception. REMEMBER, a reception room is like decorating your living room! Get it? Though magazine print pages may not offer the "truest" colors, you can take it to your nearest Home Depot, go to the paint department and find those FREE paint chip samples that match the magazine's colors. A more professional way, using the Pantone Color Guide. These guides are what designers use! Once you have your "paint sample" cards, visit a local print shop to ask them if you can stand in the store and use their Pantone guide to get the EXACT Official COLOR NUMBERS. The next step.. COLOR WHEEL. Boy oh boy, I love my color wheel! Helps me match up colors with other colors. To see a color wheel online and to learn how it works, visit the Pantone website: www.pantone.com. Look for "color wheel" info or "how to create a color palette." Once you have your matching color palette, go to the florist and say, "I want these colors in whatever flowers that fit my budget"...and let the florist put it together.

Jennifer, having a patriotic themed wedding in July (a patriotic month) is the PERFECT reason to do red, white and blue. The trick here is that if you DON'T want your wedding to look like a July 4th celebration, be sure to arrange your RED, WHITE AND BLUE in such a way that represents a wedding!

My first question, is it a day event or an evening event? If day, stick with White as your base color and use the red and blue as accent colors. If in the evening, use red as the base color! Your base color would be used in your invitations, linens, most of your flowers - the color people would see most.

Well, I have to honestly say that light green is not, in my opinion a "fall" color. Maybe Spring.. but not fall. But, it doesn't mean you can't use it if you want to! :-) And of course, this is YOUR wedding, so what you want counts most of all!

I tried to figure out the "green" you may be thinking of, but you'll have to tell me an object that has the color or find it on the web and post the webpage so I can see it.

Professionally, for October, I would hesitate to advise my client to use light green as the base color. But, do your research! This spring, 2005 fall fashions and fall home trends will be showcased. Look at home decorator mags to see what the designers are saying. For goodness sake, if folks are using light green this fall, whom am I to say it aint gonna work!
